Race Roster Check-in App a major hit at the Sydney Half Marathon

The Sydney Half Marathon, incorporating the NSW Half Marathon took place over the weekend. With over 1500 people participating on a very fast flat course we saw many PB’s including the male winner crossing the line in a very fast 63:26 and the first female in a sizzling 76:09.

The event operated and owned by Athletics NSW has bucked the industry trend and seen a steady increase in participation over the last few years. A large part of this increase has been a focus on ensuring the experience of participants is industry best and that they walk away wanting to come back the next year whilst inviting their friends, family and or training partners.

Technology is a key component to this overall experience and one area which has always been a challenge for events is the check-in process and ensuring that this is fast and seamless for staff and participants.

After a robust review of its technology solutions, Athletics NSW partnered with DTE Endurance to roll out the Race Roster registration platform. Used by thousands of events across the region including Athletics Australia’s Sydney Running festival it was viewed to be a key component to ensuring better event delivery. Athletics NSW used it on the weekend for the Sydney Half and it proved to very valuable for the event, in particular the onsite check in app.

Race Roster’s onsite app allows event organisers to gain insights on the packet pick-up traffic. With support of volunteers organisers can assign, edit or swap out bibs, and forecast how many participants have yet to pick theirs up. Further, organisers can upload bib numbers of early registrants using the uploader tool, then use the Race Roster on-site check-in and the registration kiosk to dynamically assign bibs during race week.  This enables registration and timing teams to handle upgrades, downgrades, and edits with ease.

CEO of DTE Endurance James Matthews said;

“This application elevates events customer experience by bringing technology to the table, at the same time, making bib pick-up easier on their team. Its been used by thousands of events and receives very positive feedback for its ease of use and we were excited to be able to partner with the credible governing body of Athletics in NSW to provide this tool.

“The overall experience of using the onsite app was seamless for me and my team. It was great to maintain a constant flow during bib collection and allowed customer service to be at the forefront of our process. The actions in setting up the onsite app was simple and easy to understand, making Race Roster a great tool to use with volunteers who might not have experience in registration/check-in. The insights that are available at the click of a button are helpful in keeping track of data, knowing how many athletes have checked-in and how many are athletes are still to collect.

We look forward to continuing the partnership with DTE Endurance and their Registration platform to ensure a seamless process for future events.”
